ADOS-2 Trainings & Professional Development
Dr. Thompson provides trainings for researchers and clinicians on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2). She also provides professional development trainings related to assessment, differential diagnosis, and treatment for pediatric language, social communication, developmental, and autism spectrum disorders.
ADOS-2 Trainings
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) workshops are designed to provide researchers and clinicians who have previous expertise in autism spectrum disorders with the knowledge and skills needed to use the ADOS-2 in clinical and research settings. These trainings are appropriate for researchers and clinicians such as speech-language pathologists, physicians, psychologists, and occupational therapists.
ADOS-2 Introductory / Clinical Training (Modules 1-4) – 2-day training
This introductory workshop is designed for researchers and clinicians with prior backgrounds in autism spectrum disorders and formal testing, such as speech-language pathologists, physicians, psychologists, and occupational therapists. Participants will gain a fundamental understanding of Modules 1-4 through observation and scoring of two administrations with the support of a certified trainer. This workshop serves as a pre-requisite for more thorough training required to obtain research reliability needed to use the ADOS-2 for research purposes. This workshop is delivered through various teaching methods, including lectures, videos, demonstrations of administration and scoring, and discussions.
ADOS-2 Toddler Module Introductory / Clinical Training – 1-day training
This training is focused on the ADOS-2 Toddler Module, which may be used on children between the ages of 12 and 30 months of age. This introductory workshop is designed for researchers and clinicians with prior backgrounds in autism spectrum disorders and formal testing, such as speech-language pathologists, physicians, psychologists, and occupational therapists. Participants will gain a fundamental understanding of the toddler module through observation and scoring with the support of a certified trainer. All trainees are expected to have prior training in modules 1 - 4 of the ADOS/ADOS-2 (e.g., attendance at an ADOS or ADOS-2 clinical and/or research workshop). This workshop is delivered through various teaching methods, including lectures, videos, demonstrations of administration and scoring, and discussions.
ADOS-2 Advanced/Research Reliability Workshop – 2-day training
The ADOS-2 advanced/research workshop is designed for individuals who have already completed ADOS-2 clinical/introductory training, including those who would like to establish research reliability so they can use the ADOS-2 for research purposes or gain hands-on clinical experience administering with live patients in small groups. The training is two days, involving intensive instruction on the psychometrics of the instrument, working in small groups on administering and scoring the ADOS-2, and discussion and question/answer about specific administration and coding issues.
ADOS-2 Booster Training – 1-day training
The ADOS-2 Booster training is for individuals who have previously attended an ADOS-2 Introductory and/or Research Training and would like an opportunity to practice scoring and check their reliability. This is a 1-day training that is delivered through a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, videos, demonstrations of administration and scoring, and discussions.
